It is hard to wrap my mind around the events of today. Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld has passed away. This is a statement hard to believe and something I do not want to even process. The immense sadness and crushed feeling has been lingering with many today, including myself. With extreme sadness, a realization came to me that talking about Karl Lagerfeld’s pure ingenuity and genius will now be a topic of the past. Though his legacy will always continue on, many will be feeling melancholic for his designs and wonderful attributes– including his photography skills, generosity, and his sense of humor.

When I first began to take a serious interest in fashion, my go to brand for extravagant and classic fashion, like many people, was Chanel. When you wanted to know what was going to be “next” in the fashion world, Mr. Lagerfeld always pointed us towards the light of a new age of fashion. Every season something new and beautiful would always be produced, yet no season was the same as another. He created opportunities to take fashion places it less commonly goes like in Dallas, Texas for a Métiers d’Art show and Havana, Cuba almost immediately after the country was open to visitors, and metaphorically like his recent Egyptian themed collection. Always inventive, he excelled and performed exceptionally time and time again collection after collection. Chanel, synonymous with the likes of founder Coco Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld himself, is the epitome of innovation today. The storied brand produces over five collections a year– a massive feat for any designer. More than that, Mr. Lagerfeld in his later age still was involved in the process of creating the collections daily.

Lagerfeld with his work at Chanel and Fendi has created worlds that fashion lovers alike want to envelope themselves in. He created atmospheres that only heightened the clothing, not take away from it. The massive iceberg or the waterfall or even the spaceship are representations of his pure imagination. I will yearn for his sets that give us glimpses into his mind and his reasoning behind choosing them too. I have loved seeing his innovation play out in other ways in addition to the miraculous clothing he made.

Though I did not know Karl Lagerfeld his work touched me, moved me deeply, and most of all confirmed that fashion, as beautiful and fanciful it may seem from the surface, can shock our cores and touch us all in the most indescribable ways. He often left me speechless because of the wonder of his work. How we all will miss him so.

By now I am sure you all know I have quite an immense and strong love for Chanel. Karl Lagerfeld is an absolute genius and I just get inspired seeing how he inspires himself as each season continues on. This Cruise 2017 collection was no different. It was superb! As I not pay attention to my physics class, (I mean, who needs physics anyway!) I look and devour these images I find of the collection. This season the runway show took place in Cuba a newly opened country for America’s business. It was beautiful. From the pictures I can tell this has to be an amazing spot. The collection was luxe and each look was frothy and delicious in its own way. It was classic but with a twist. I know my words are not quite original but I see little aspects of Coco Chanel herself in the collection with the black accents and strong structured pants. But it was exhilarating to see those classic touches be reborn a la Karl Lagerfeld.I was totally blown away and having heart palpitations. Yeah, my love for Chanel extends that far.The sequins are bright colors and the accessories galore was more than enough to power me through the day, daydreaming about owning those garments myself. A girl can dream right? Below are my favorite looks. Enjoy.

Though Couture week has come and gone I am still left mesmerized by what I saw. Yes, this review is late but these gorgeous clothes have not left my mind. First off Chanel Haute Couture was a complete dream, per usual. Karl Lagerfeld took a “green” approach this season and it was quite lovely because everything was decadent and rich and was over the top beautiful in every possible way. Though the words I just used to describe the collection do not seem eco-friendly the collection proved it was just that with healthy resources used in the collection that will last forever and are timeless just like the collection itself. Now onto Atelier Versace I rather enjoyed it and thought the clothes were executed beautifully as the unfinished suit Gigi Hadid wore was really sexy and strong all wrapped into one. Giambattista Valli Haute Couture was a fluffy (very fluffy) dream. The gowns are always a sight to see just by themselves and I just adore seeing them float effortlessly down the runway. Dior Haute Couture was wonderful due to the circumstances of having head designer, Raf Simons, resign at the helm of Dior. I thought the staff did a wonderful job and I really enjoyed what I saw. Armani Privé was intriguing due to the color choice of mauve, which grew on me more as the collection progressed. Armani is always so classic and just really pleasing to the eye. Finally Valentino Haute Couture was just so inspiring it left me breathless. The way the head designers find ways to inspire them is just wondrous. The models were ethereal and so were the ravishing gowns. Everything was just perfect.

Atelier Versace was a beautiful and ethereal collection with flowing gowns and flower crowns. The models looked majestic as they floated down the runway like Greek goddesses. Kendall Jenner especially sparked my interest in the collection as she looked like a dark and mysterious mermaid in her wonderfully crafted dress sauntering down the runway.

Schiaparelli Couture took my breath away with its lovely shapes and assortment of colors in the collection. The prints and colors were so exciting and quite lovely.

Christian Dior Couture was absolutely stunning. The decadent coats with the fur and only one sleeve were so innovative. Also the colors paired together were beautiful like the cherry colored coat with the cerulean almost periwinkle-like pants. The white dress with the argyle overlay was so spectacular.

Giambattista Valli Couture celebrated its tenth year anniversary and this collection was quite a celebration itself. The black drop waist top with the fluffy tulle hem was something quite exciting. Also the prints and the beautiful earrings were such lovely additions to collection.

Chanel Couture was wonderful with its intriguing casino venue and all the wonderful celebrities present in beautiful couture creations as well. The show was such a mix of Coco Chanel herself and Karl Lagerfeld too. It was a wonderful combination. The motorcycle jacket over the crystal like dress was so beautiful in its own right.

Armani Privé was almost like a technicolor dream with all the new colors and eye popping hues Mr. Armani presented. Though the colors were offset by black the textures of the garments stuck out. The tea length dress with the cigarette pants underneath was something unforgettable.

Maison Margiela Couture was an exhilarating experience all the way through, though one should not expect any less from Mr. Galliano. The shapes and prints and colors were something to behold. The bright blue dress with the rope tied behind the neck in a bow was quite exquisite. Also the additions to the coats and other garments kept the eye traveling.

Finally Valentino Couture was possibly the most extraordinary collection I have ever seen. Every garment was so beautiful and made with such craftsmanship only Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli could create. Every detail was stunning down to the black gladiator sandal each model wore. The colors and prints represented their inspiration of Rome perfectly. The show definitely deserved its standing ovation in every possible way.
